Coco's Story.

Those of you that have had a Puppy from me will know this story about my chocolate  Labrador named Coco, but for all you who haven't then this is a Story that I like to tell people,

I tell this Story because I feel that it is an important message and one that every Pet Owner Should Be Told. The message that is in this Tale, is that your Pet is Yours and yours alone ? It's this knowledge that has helped me to know when my dog's have become ill. Even when they showed no obvious symptoms apart from my Gut Instinct and the fact that I Just Know Them !

I don’t tell you this for any other reason but for you to know the fact that NO-ONE will ever know your dog the way that you will do after time !!!  If you ever feel that something is not right with your Pet do not ever get swayed by any other person not even a vet !!! If you feel in your own gut that something is wrong with your Pet then go with it and don’t let anyone tell you different !!!
I say this by personal experience and I will now tell you how ??

A good few years ago when my son was a baby !! (18 years) I had a chocolate Labrador called COCO !! Now anyone that knows Labrador's knows that they like to eat and will eat anything, and everything without any clue as to whether its good for them or not  !!

Not only do Labrador's eat anything but they would also continue eating until the Cow's Come Home or Until they POP ! So with Labrador's / Pug's or any other food addicted Breed's like these, when they Stop Eating this is a great indication that your Pet maybe ill,
So when Coco stopped eating I knew that something was not right with her ??

I left it a day before taking her to the vet as I needed to see that she wasn't just feeling off colour as we all have some day's when we feel like that Don't we ??
By the next day she still wasn't happy so I took her to the vet !! They poked and prodded her and told me there was nothing wrong with her and to take her home ??

I took her back home but I knew something wasn't right, so I took her back 2 more times and each time I was sent packing with a tight smile and a pat on the head ???
So by now she had been ill for 4 days and she still had not eaten and had hardly drunk anything, and I just knew that something was really wrong with her. She was not behaving like Coco she was lying about feeling sorry for herself and more than that she had not EATEN !!!

So on the 5th day I took her back to the vets and demanded they did and X-ray on her ??

I was told I would be wasting my money so I pointed out that it was my dog and my money and just do it ASAP !!!!
So later on that morning the phone ring's I pick up the phone and I'm greeted by a smug sounding vet telling me they had done an X-ray and there was nothing wrong with her ??  I asked was she still on the table and was answered with a YES ??  So I said I wanted them to run a dye through her stomach !! The vet laughed and told me I was crazy !!

I answered more than likely I was but do it now anyway !!!!

Once again I was told I was just throwing my money away so I just said well then you had better get moving as I was paying by the hour !!!!!

Within 5 minutes the phone rang and a much " Nicer Sounding " vet was on the phone stating that they had run the dye through and it had stopped halfway through the Intestines. This then proved that there was definitely something either blocking the Intestine's or that the Intestine's had become twisted ?

I controlled myself with the I told you so !!

The vet then had to remove 6 inches of intestines as Coco had picked up a bottle teat that we had thrown out and she had swallowed it whole and as it was clear it didn't show up on the X-ray !!!  The vet also pointed out that the intestines were so infected, that had they not operated on her that morning. Then her intestine's could have ruptured, and that she would have probably have died of blood poisoning before the end of the same evening !!!!

Moral to this story is not that I should have been a vet !!!! It is the fact and one thing that I hope you learn from this Tale and I hope that you will remember, if nothing else sinks in !!!!

Please learn from this Story is that No-one not even a vet knows your dog the way that you know your dog !!

ALWAY'S  listen to your gut and if your gut says something is wrong with your Pet then listen to it and don’t allow anyone to tell you otherwise and Don't ever let yourself be told otherwise !

NO-ONE KNOWS YOUR PET THE WAY THAT YOU KNOW YOUR PET.
